EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland

EPFL:

The inspiring and dynamic learning ambiance comes fully to its right at the campuses of both the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL) and the University of Lausanne (located just east of EPFL). With green all around - except for the southern side, which looks out over the lake - and all necessary academical and personal facilities within hand reach, the campus of EPFL offers a perfect environment. It is not without reason that more than ten thousend students and academics find their ways here.
An impression of what EPFL offers in terms of education and research can be found on the EPFL website.

Lausanne:

At the shore of Lake Geneva lies Lausanne, the beautiful capital of Vaud, one of the twenty-six cantons of Switzerland. The "Olympic city", hosting the headquarters of the IOC as well as the well-known Olympic Museum is continuously developing and puts lots of effort in making life enjoyable, exciting, culturally challenging and sustainable. The location at the Swiss Riviera provides an inspiring and dynamic ambiance for learning, working and relaxing.

Places to see, museums to visit, information about the public transport services and other useful information about Lausanne and its agglomeration can be found on the website of Lausanne Tourisme.

The Lake Geneva region is known for its beautiful Lavaux Vineyard terraces which are part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. You can easily get there by train from Lausanne (e.g. from Lausanne to St.Saphorin). A hiking proposition figures on the following website. If you want to see the Vineyards from another angle, there are several possibilities to take a cruise on the Lake Geneva departing from Lausanne (e.g. Lausanne to Montreux one-way (90 min) and back by train (20 min)). In the evening, you can also take a dinner cruise. A comprehensive overview of excursions, gastronomy and events in the Lake Geneva region can be found here.
